The line number indicates in which order aircraft were built. And it differs from the construction number.
Scattered around the productionlists are a few line numbers, in the menu on the left are a few types of aircraft for which I found (nearly) all line numbers.
All show the order in which these aircraft were built, except the DC-4/C-54 (these where simultanously built in more than one factory).
The type shown is how it came off the productionline. For conversions check the production list.
